what changes every 365 days.....NOTHING!!!!

with the commercial and auspicious festival of new year approaching it's time for tv channels, newspapers, magazines and quite obviously internet sites to post the yearly top 10's for the most random things like, 'top 10 bollywood item numbers' to slightly more important and relevant top 10's like, 'top 10 bomb blasts in pakistan' (side not: i think thats goin to tough to decide, there can be new entires expected till the 31st of december)

my question is, who decides on what top 10's to take? or who decides on who fills in this top 10? tv channels and others alike have used the public fascination for year end top 10's to make a quick buck, SMS votes and online votes to determine this prestigious 'award'. i wonder if anyone has done a top 10 media mistakes of the year. the whole 'self introspection' thing?

well thats just the media, even we as a society have put so much emphasis on this day of new year. i don't get the fascination, i mean yeah it's nice to bring in a new calender year, but i hate it when people say that if anything happens to you on the 1st it gets the ball rolling for the rest of the year. i mean what happens to you in 24 hours is supposed to determine whats goin to happen to you for the next 8736 hours? really? so basically during those 24 hours, if u poop, pee and fart, u'r goin to do that for the rest of the year too? really? so then, if i don't do all these things on that day, i'm goin to be constipated for the rest of the year? (damn, i better ensure a good fiber intake the previous day)  so thats exactly it, if u get busted for drunk driving on the 1st, are u goin to spend the rest of the year in jail? maybe (u deserve to).

new years eve parties have reached a level where your status in society is dependent on where you go for new years? are we THAT shallow? does where we go on the last day of year so important? and do u notice that we always say goodbye to a 'horrible' year and welcome a new year, a fresh start, full of hope and resolutions and hopes only to wave goodbye to this 'new start' in 365 days time. so what the real significance of a new year, well here are a few i can think off on the top my head
1.  we need to change the last column when we write the date the next time
2.  need to buy new calenders
3.  new kingfisher calender is out (it's got dates too)
4.  turn one more year older

i mean these are the only things that are probably goin to 'different' in the new year. people who use new years to take up a resolution on the 1st of jan to quit smoking, find a new job, work harder, lose weight, etc are just looking for an excuse. everyday offers you the opportunity to start anew.
